NAMI DuPage's Run for the Mind and Kids' Obstacle Course October 11, 2014

Fall is the perfect time for a 5K! On October 11, NAMI DuPage will be holding their annual Run for the Mind to help raise awareness about mental illness. One in four families is touched by mental illness. NAMI provides support for those families touched by mental illness as well as advocates for individuals living with mental illness. Additionally, NAMI reaches out to educate the community. Many of us have been touched in some way by mental illness so NAMI's mission is one that is so important to all of us. NAMI is such a vital resource for families and individuals as they navigate mental illness. What a great cause to support!

In addition to the 5K, NAMI's Run for the Mind has a kids' obstacle course so even younger family members can get out to support a good cause! In addition to the obstacle course, there will be plenty of kids' activities and even some visits from honored guests---Princess Elsa, Captain America, Snow White and Spiderman! I love how NAMI really gets children engaged in such a great cause! The obstacle course and kids' activities will make it such a wonderful morning!

Here is more info about the event from NAMI:

Come join the fun with our kids’ activities to raise awareness for mental illness. NAMI DuPage, a grassroots mental health organization, is holding our 26th Annual Run for the Mind at St. James Farm in Warrenville, IL on October 11th, 2014. Kids will enjoy the Obstacle Course, Face Painting, and Balloon Animals. Don’t forget your cameras: you can take pictures with Queen Elsa, Captain America, Snow White, and Spiderman! Look for the Girl Scouts of America who will also have a special activity! Register at www.namidupage.org

NAMI DuPage is a grassroots mental health organization whose guiding mission is to improve the lives of persons with mental illness and their families through support, advocacy and education. An affiliate of the National Alliance for mental illness, NAMI DuPage is the only organization in DuPage County that helps individuals and families living with mental illness gain access to a wide variety of mental health services focused on recovery.

NAMI DuPage also provides the only early intervention program in DuPage County, reaching over 14,000 students in over 43 different middle and high schools last year. With 50% of all lifetime cases of mental illness beginning by age 14 (National Institute of Mental Health, 2013), and only about half of youth with a mental illness receiving treatment, the need for a program that begins a conversation about mental illness is crucial.

The NAMI 5K and Kids' Obstacle Course will be a wonderful way to spend a fall day!
